Far too many 'owned' pets find themselves 'homeless', simply because they didn't find their way home. Loving families are heartbroken with worry and loss.
Each year hundreds of pets, brought in as 'stray', wait at shelters for a home when they already have one. With shelters already overwhelmed, valuable space is being taken away from pets truly left 'homeless;.
Often times people don't know where to search for their missing pet. They may have contacted their nearest animal control or shelter, meanwhile their pet is sitting at a shelter further away. Sadly, some of these pets ultimately lose their lives.

Keeping Pets Out of Shelters
Imagine being far from home or possibly right next door, yet you are 'lost' and confused. The people you relied upon and the comfort only your home can bring is GONE.
This is a reality for far too many pets. Often times these pets are deemed 'strays'. Generally when someone finds a pet they automatically assume it is a stray. Meaning well, the pet is brought to an animal shelter. If the shelter is in the same town odds are the owner will look there first, but many towns don't have physical shelters. Or someone finding a pet may prefer a shelter a little further away and bring the pet there. It's not unheard of with so many of our shelters unable to take on more pets for a pet to be transported over an hour away. Many owners only think to look for their pet at their nearest facility, reducing their odds of ever finding their pet. Meanwhile, their pet sits waiting to be found. Many of these pets are put up for adoption, for others being placed on 'death row' comes too soon.
